Blue Jays Prevail, 3-1, Over Washington
|
John Burkett pitched well, but the Washington Senators still lost the game, falling 3-1 to the Toronto Blue Jays at RFK Stadium. Bryan Hickerson was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 1 run on 4 hits, with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Steve Shirley earned the save for Toronto, his 8th.
Will Clark's at-bat in the top of the seventh was significant, coming with a runner on 2nd and the game tied, 1-1. The Toronto first baseman hit a run-scoring double off John Burkett to put the Blue Jays up.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Clark said.
Toronto is now 29-28.
