Rockies Squelch Athletics Offense in Shutout Win
Colorado right-hander Bill Wegman was in fine form, shutting out the Oakland Athletics, 3-0. Wegman, now 5-3, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 2, walking 1, and allowing no earned runs. Joey Eischen earned the save for Colorado, his 12th.

Keith Lockhart had a big 2-run single for the Rockies in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Colorado leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Mike Magnante and stroked the single to center. It was his 42nd hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Rockies ahead, 3-0.

Afterward, Rockies manager was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."

Colorado is now 30-28.
