Devil Rays Shut Out Red Sox
|
The 1997 season is getting ugly for Boston.
Jimmy Key never let the Red Sox get in a groove. The left-hander used his bread and butter, his curveball, to pitch the Devil Rays to a 5-0 win. Key, the winner, moves to 5-6. He threw 5.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 4 walks.
Orlando needed the clutch hitting of Tim Salmon to notch the win. The right fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Devil Rays on top, 3-0. For the game, Salmon had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Salmon told the Orlando Today.
The Devil Rays raised their record to 32-27.
