The Chicago Cubs got a good effort from starter Scott Garrelts in defeating the Minnesota Twins at Wrigley Field. The final score was 6-2. Chicago reliever Alberto Reyes was the winner. His record is now 3-2. The losing pitcher was Gene Walter. The Cubs saw their record improve to 31-27.

A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 1st and no one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. That's when left fielder Mike Piazza, who won the Most Valuable Player in 1995, hit a single. The Cubs went on to win.

"Everything felt in sync," said Garrelts.
