Cincinnati Reds starter Jim Abbott was in fine form against the Cleveland Spiders at Riverfront Stadium, leading his team to a 5-3 win. Cincinnati reliever Doug Henry picked up the win, upping his record to 4-5. Willie Banks was saddled with the loss. The Reds bumped their record to 32-28 with this latest triumph.
One significant plate appearance for Cincinnati came with one out in the bottom of the tenth inning. Reds third baseman Scott Rolen hit a walk-off 2-run home run, which helped Cincinnati go on to win.
"I like how we battled to the end," said Rolen.
