Bonilla belts 2 home runs, Marlins Move to 40-21
|
Getting a good performance from designated hitter Bobby Bonilla, the Florida Marlins defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-2. Bonilla hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for the Marlins. Roger Clemens earned the win to go to 7-1. He allowed 2 earned runs on 5 hits, with no walks and 8 strikeouts. Bryan Harvey notched his 21st save in 24 chances.
It could have been a different outcome for Florida, had it not been for Rondell White, the former first round draft pick . White contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning to put Florida up, 1-0.
"This is a very good team," said White. "We have the chance to do something special."
Florida goes to 40-21. The win puts them 7 games up in their division.
