Multi-HR Day for Valentin as Sun Rays Overpower Cardinals, 10-4
|
The Orlando Sun Rays grabbed a 10-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Orlando shortstop Jose Valentin went 2-5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice to earn player of the game honors. The winner was Andy Benes, who threw 139 pitches over 7.2 innings. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs on 8 hits. Orlando is now riding a 3-game win streak.
With Orlando leading 2-0 in the top of the first, Valentin hit a fastball from Terry Mulholland for a 3-run home run. It was his 12th home run of the season and put the Sun Rays ahead, 5-0.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Valentin.
