Senators Win at Oakland, 12-4
|
The Washington Senators knocked off the Oakland Athletics, 12-4, at Oakland Coliseum. Albert Belle, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Washington won. The designated hitter went 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Andy Pettitte got the win, improving to 4-7. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 5 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 10 and walking 3. Milt Hill was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 1 of 1 save opportunities.
In the top of the fourth, with Washington trailing 3-2, center fielder Eric Davis hit a grand slam. The hit came off Bobby M Jones and put the Senators ahead, 6-3.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Belle.
The Senators bumped their record to 39-22 with this latest triumph.
