Red Sox Come Back Late to Top White Sox
The Chicago White Sox got a sterling performance from right fielder Marty Cordova, but the Red Sox still prevailed, 9-8. Cordova was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. Boston reliever Karl Best picked up the win to move to 1-1. Ralph Citarella suffered the loss. The losing skid has reached 9 games for Chicago.

One of their superstars provided one of the highlights for Boston. It happened with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Barry Bonds, who finished 3rd in the FL in on-base percentage with .404 in 1991, hit a solo home run on a first pitch curveball from Ralph Citarella to put the Red Sox up, 9-8. For the game, the right fielder went 2 for 2 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

"We found a way to get it done," Bonds said.
