Cardinals Rally For Late Win Over Marlins
The Cardinals had to overcome a fine performance from Florida pitcher Kevin Appier to grab a 4-2 win at Busch Stadium. Appier allowed 3 earned runs over 8 innings. Reliever Steve Chitren picked up the win. His record improves to 3-5. Kevin Appier took the loss. The Cardinals, at 31-31, sit in 5th place in the Federal League Central Division.

John Valentin was the walk-off hero for St. Louis. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Cardinals shortstop hit a dramatic 2-run home run to send the teams home.

"This place sure got loud," said Adam Rabel, the St. Louis manager.
