Twins Turn Back New York, 5-4

In a close game at Metrodome, the Minnesota Twins edged the New York Yankees, 5-4. Minnesota center fielder Darin Erstad earned the nod as player of the game. He went 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 times. Minnesota reliever Doug Piatt picked up the win, upping his record to 1-2. Mark Clark took the loss. With the win, the Twins improved to 26-36.
One significant plate appearance for Minnesota came with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Twins left fielder Koji Akiyama drew a walk, driving in 1 run, which helped Minnesota go on to win.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Twins manager Darren Fischbach. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
