Spiders Double Up Chicago, 6-3
|
The Cleveland Spiders beat the Chicago Cubs, 6-3, at League Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of left fielder Rudy Pemberton, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times. Steve Cooke was called on to finish, recording his 1st save. Cleveland is now riding a 3-game win streak.
The Spiders got a lift from third baseman Kevin Mitchell who had a run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh inning off Alberto Reyes. It was his 71st hit of the season and put Cleveland in front, 4-3.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Mitchell told the Cleveland News.
