Yankees Losing Streak at 5 After Extra-Inning Loss to Royals
|
The Royals had to overcome a fine performance from New York pitcher Jim Abbott to grab a 5-4 win at Yankee Stadium. Abbott allowed 2 earned runs over 7 innings. Kansas City reliever Armando Benitez was the winner. His record is now 3-3. The losing pitcher was Eric Plunk. The winning streak has now reached 6 games for Kansas City.
Kansas City used the timely hitting of Jim Thome to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Royals on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
In postgame comments, Thome said, "I think we gave the fans their money's worth."
