Close Win Moves Yankees to 18-44
|
New York starter Ramon J. Martinez pitched effectively against the Minnesota Twins at Metrodome. The right-hander led his team to a 4-3 win. Mike Henneman notched his 4th save in 6 chances. Even with the win, the Yankees have a dismal 18-44 record.
It could have been a different outcome for New York, had it not been for Mike Lieberthal, the 25-year old catcher . Lieberthal contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the seventh inning to put New York up, 3-1.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Minnesota manager Darren Fischbach said following the tough loss.
