Red Sox Raise Rally Flag, Beat Chicago, 2-1
|
Chicago wasted a solid 9-inning effort from starting pitcher Randy Tomlin, losing to Boston, 2-1, at Wrigley Field. Their 33-30 record puts the Red Sox 4th in the Federal League East Division.
Boston used the clutch hitting of Henry Mercedes to capture the win. The catcher drilled a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Red Sox the lead, 2-1. For the game, Mercedes had 1 single and 1 double in 3 at-bats.
"Against this team here, fangs out late in the game, it's nice to beat them," said Boston skipper Brett Williams.
