Martinez Goes Off, But Expos Win
Seattle got a terrific game from designated hitter Edgar Martinez. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Montreal, 6-4. Martinez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Jon Lieber, credited with the win, is now 5-4. He allowed 4 runs on 5 hits in 7.1 innings. Seattle has now lost 6 straight.

One pivotal at-bat came with one out in the top of the second. With runners on 1st and 2nd and Seattle trailing 2-0, Jon Lieber needed to bear down against J.T. Snow. Lieber won the battle, as Snow struck out and the Expos went on to win.
