Senators Win in Extras
|
Fans who congregated at Jack Murphy Stadium were treated to extra-inning drama.
Washington shortstop Alex Rodriguez played a vital role in his team's 6-4 triumph over San Diego. He went 4 for 6 with a home run and 3 doubles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for Washington. The winner was Tim Burke in relief. His record improves to 4-8. Ramon Pena took the loss.
Rodriguez had a game-changing double in the top of the 11th. On a 0-1 curveball from Ramon Pena, he banged a 2-run double to center, giving the Senators a 6-4 lead. It was the 13th double of the year for Rodriguez.
"Our team showed some gumption," said Rodriguez. "I like it."
Even with the win, the Senators have a dismal 20-44 record.
