Cardinals Topple Spiders with Late Rally
|
Karim Garcia knocked in all 4 runs for the St. Louis Cardinals, helping them beat the Cleveland Spiders, 4-2. The winner was St. Louis reliever Mariano Rivera, now 3-1. The loser was Willie Banks. Steve Chitren notched his 13th save in 17 chances.
In the top of the eighth, Garcia had one of his most important at-bats: a 3-run home run off Willie Banks that staked the Cardinals to a 4-2 lead.
Garcia attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
The Cardinals raised their record to 32-32.
