Pirates Finish Off Cubs in 12
|
Pittsburgh and Chicago played a hard-fought contest at Wrigley Field.
The Pittsburgh Pirates got a good effort from starter Chris Nabholz in defeating the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The final score was 3-1. The Cubs, now 36-27, have lost 4 straight.
Nabholz, a native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was dealing all game. He kept Chicago hitters off-balance, while giving the Pirates 9 quality innings. Nabholz threw 131 pitches, allowing 4 hits and striking out 7.
During his postgame press conference, Pirates manager Stephen Ginter told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
