San Diego right fielder Andy Van Slyke was sensational. He went 2-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. New York beat the Padres, 8-7. Van Slyke was named the player of the game despite the loss. The Mets bumped their record to 37-28 with this latest triumph.

Sammy Sosa was the walk-off hero for New York. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Mets pinch hitter hit a dramatic solo home run to send the teams home.

"There's nothing like the buzz of a walk-off win," Sosa said.
