Tigers Win in Extras
|
The San Francisco Giants got a superb performance from pitcher Omar Daal, but the Detroit Tigers still won the game, 4-3. Daal was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 6 innings of 1-hit ball. Detroit reliever Jeff E. Gray picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Mark Dewey absorbed the loss. Detroit is now riding a 3-game win streak.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Tony Fernandez came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. Facing San Francisco pitcher Xavier Hernandez, he hit a 2-1 forkball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Detroit on top, 4-3.
"This place was rockin'," Fernandez said.
