Yankees Topple Rangers as Kunkel Shines
|
Jeff Kunkel was instrumental in his team's 5-3 triumph over the Texas Rangers. The center fielder was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once for the New York Yankees. Mark Clark, the winner, improved to 2-10. He held Texas to 2 earned runs on 5 hits over 7 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts. Andy Ashby converted his 7th save in 9 tries.
Early in the game, Kunkel had a 3-run home run for New York. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Yankees on top, 4-1.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Kunkel.
The 5th-place Yankees now have a win-loss record of 29-37.
