Pirates Win at Chicago, 6-5
|
Chicago right fielder Marty Cordova had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 6-5, to Pittsburgh at Comiskey Park. Cordova went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The winner was Kevin Appier, who threw 113 pitches over 6 innings. The right-hander was charged with 5 runs on 11 hits. The loss drops Chicago to 4-4.
Pittsburgh used the timely hitting of Bobby Bonilla to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Pirates on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Bonilla told the Pittsburgh Today. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
