Padres Rally to Eke Out Win
|
Fans at Shea Stadium got more than they bargained for.
San Diego Padres starter Bill Gullickson turned in a top-notch performance against the New York Mets at Shea Stadium. The result was a win for the Padres, 2-1. Gregg Olson picked up the save, his 13th.
Late-game drama came in the top of the tenth inning. With no one out and the bases empty, the batter, Deion Sanders, hit a single. It helped San Diego seize the win.
"This game tested our mettle," said Gullickson.
The 5th-place Padres now have a win-loss record of 30-38.
