Montreal starter Pedro Martinez put a stranglehold on the Seattle offense. The right-hander had complete command of his circle change in leading the Expos to a 11-0 win. Martinez went 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 9. His record improves to 9-1. Montreal goes to 45-21. The win puts them 7 games up in their division.

It could have been a different outcome for Montreal, had it not been for Jeff Kent, the 27-year old second baseman . Kent contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the third inning to put Montreal up, 2-0.

"Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug," said Seattle manager Robert O'Neill. "Today we were the bug."
