Red Sox Lose Despite Cameron's Valiant Effort
|
St. Louis played host to Boston at the friendly confines of Busch Stadium.
Boston got a terrific performance from center fielder Mike Cameron, but it wasn't enough to beat the St. Louis Cardinals. St. Louis won the Busch Stadium contest, 6-5. Cameron was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2 for 2 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Steve Chitren converted his 12th save in 14 tries.
The Cardinals beat the Red Sox with some clutch hitting. The single by Brian S Giles in the bottom of the fourth is a good example. With two down, Giles gave his team the lead, 6-5, when he came through with the big hit.
"This is a very good team," said Giles. "We have the chance to do something special."
St. Louis now has a 3-game win streak.
