Pilots Slip Past Oakland, 3-2
|
Seattle Pilots starter Randy Johnson turned in a sterling performance against the Oakland Athletics, leading his team to a slim 3-2 win. Seattle reliever Darren Holmes picked up the win, upping his record to 4-9. Steve Bedrosian was saddled with the loss. Seattle, at 33-33, sits in second place in the United League West Division.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Dante Bichette came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. Facing Oakland pitcher Steve Bedrosian, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Seattle on top, 3-2.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Oakland manager Jim B. "But we decided not to take it."
