Yankees Score Late, Upend Reds, 8-7
|
The New York Yankees beat the Cincinnati Reds, 8-7, at Riverfront Stadium. Travis Fryman was recognized as player of the game for his performance. He went 2-5 with 2 doubles. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. The former first round draft pick was a menace to Cincinnati all day. Mike Henneman, credited with the save, is now 6 for 8 in save opportunities. Even with the win, the Yankees have a dismal 20-47 record.
Fryman had a game-changing double in the top of the ninth. On a first pitch slider from Doug Henry, he banged a bases-clearing double to center, giving the Yankees a 8-7 lead. It was the 9th double of the year for Fryman.
"We found a way to get it done," Fryman said.
