Cardinals Snatch 3-2 Win
|
The St. Louis Cardinals got a strong performance from pitcher Francisco Cordova, who stymied the Kansas City offense en route to a 3-2 win at Busch Stadium. Vince Horsman got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 0.1 innings. Steve Chitren notched his 14th save in 18 chances.
Had Brian S Giles not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Giles hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Cardinals.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Kansas City manager Daniel Drucker said following the tough loss.
St. Louis is now 33-35. Kansas City is 44-23.
