Senators Score Late to Upend Blue Jays, 6-5
|
Washington catcher Mike Stanley was a significant contributor in his team's 6-5 triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays. He slugged 2 home runs for Washington. Washington reliever Lee Smith was credited with the win, to go to 6-3. Curt Brown took the loss for Toronto. Greg McMichael was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 2 save opportunities.
Washington used the clutch hitting of Carl Everett to capture the win. The left fielder drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to give the Senators the lead, 6-5. For the game, Everett had 2 singles and 1 double in 5 at-bats.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Toronto manager Jose Mata. "But we decided not to take it."
Washington occupies 4th place in the United League East Division at 34-33.
