Late Rally by Mets Seals 4th Straight Win
|
The Montreal Expos got a superb performance from pitcher Mark Guthrie. Still, it wasn't enough to beat New York. The Mets won the game, 6-3. In spite of the loss, Guthrie was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. The win was credited to Wayne Edwards in relief. His record improves to 3-0. Ed Correa took the loss. The Mets, now 37-31, have won 4 in a row.
New York used the clutch hitting of Olmedo Saenz to capture the win. The designated hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mets ahead, 6-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Saenz.
