Orioles Turn Back Washington, 6-4
|
Baltimore starter Steve Avery had a strong outing against the Washington Senators at Memorial Stadium. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 6-4 win. Avery, now 9-5, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 6, walking 0, and allowing 2 earned runs. The last-place Senators have lost 4 consecutive games.
The Orioles got a big at-bat from third baseman Leo Gomez. For the game, Gomez went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 15th home run of the season gave Baltimore a 4-3 lead.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Avery. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
