The Detroit Tigers scored a 2-1 win versus the Arizona Diamondbacks at Tiger Stadium. Detroit pitcher Vaughn Eshelman nabbed top player honors in the tight contest. Elmer Dessens earned the save, his 1st, for the Tigers. Detroit, now 1-5, is off to a slow start.

Ben Grieve came through for Detroit in the bottom of the second. With one out, Grieve victimized Scott Karl with a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put Detroit on top, 2-1.

"Nice to get this one," said Grieve. "Wins have been hard to come by."
