Yankees Slip Past Cleveland, 6-5
|
The New York Yankees did just enough to sneak past the Cleveland Spiders, 6-5, at Yankee Stadium. New York first baseman Don Mattingly earned player of the game honors. New York is now 30-38.
Kelly Gruber chipped in for New York with a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth. For the game, the second baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 RBI.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Cleveland manager Wilson Ogle. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
