The Cincinnati Reds got a rather unremarkable outing from starting pitcher Jose Rijo, but it was good enough for the club to take a 2-1 decision over the New York Yankees. Rijo went 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7. His record improves to 5-2. Cincinnati, now 37-32, holds second place in the Federal League East Division.

Cincinnati took a 1-0 lead on Omar Vizquel's 52nd hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Vizquel hit in the bottom of the seventh, left New York pitcher Brian Bohanon shaking his head.

"Both teams played hard," said Cincinnati manager Eric Deutsch.
