Chicago beat Milwaukee on the strength of starter Scott Garrelts's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 4-1 win. Frank DiPino was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 19 of 24 save opportunities. Chicago, now 36-32, holds third place in the Federal League Central Division.

Chicago relied on the hitting of Derek Bell to pick up the win. The left fielder clubbed a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Cubs on top, 2-1. For the game, Bell had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Bell said after the game.
