Detroit beat Washington on the strength of starter Steve Trachsel's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 4-2 win. The last-place Tigers have won 4 in a row.

The Tigers beat the Senators with some clutch hitting. The home run by Tino Martinez in the bottom of the fifth is a good example. With two down, Martinez gave his team the lead, 4-2, when he came through with the big hit.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Martinez told a Detroit Bulletin reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
