New York Mets starter Takehiro Ishii turned in an exceptional performance against the Montreal Expos at Olympic Stadium, resulting in a New York win, 3-1. Dan Plesac was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 1 of 1 save opportunities. The Mets bumped their record to 39-30 with this latest triumph.

In the top of the first, Gary Sheffield ambushed a 1-1 fastball from Matt Young and hit a solo home run. It gave New York a quick 1-0 lead.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said New York skipper Michael Kritikos.
