The Athletics had to overcome a fine effort from Los Angeles pitcher Ramiro Mendoza to grab a narrow 4-3 win at Oakland Coliseum. Mendoza went 7.1 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Reliever Jeff C D'Amico picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Scott Radinsky took the loss. Oakland, now 27-41, holds last place in the United League West Division.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Oakland center fielder Devon White, facing Scott Radinsky, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Athletics the 4-3 win.

"We did enough to win," said White.
