Strawberry Hits 2 home runs in Spiders Win
|
The exploits of designated hitter Darryl Strawberry, who finished 5th in the FL in extra base hits with 68 in 1984, helped the Cleveland Spiders defeat the Boston Red Sox, 6-1. Strawberry went 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Cleveland's record now stands at 37-32, placing them third in the Federal League East Division.
Billy Ripken hit a 2-run double off Doug Bochtler in the bottom of the second, which put the Spiders in front, 2-1. In addition to the double, Ripken had 1 single, while going 2 for 3.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Strawberry said after the game.
