Cardinals Win in Glorious Fashion
|
The St. Louis Cardinals wiggled past the Minnesota Twins, 6-5, at Busch Stadium. St. Louis pitcher Bill C. Swift earned player of the game honors. The winner was Steve Chitren in relief. His record improves to 5-0. Norm Charlton took the loss. The Cardinals own a robust 45-26 mark.
The game was decided with no one out in the bottom of the tenth. With St. Louis trailing 5-4, John Valentin hit a slider from Jerry Spradlin to right-center for a 2-run double. Just like that, the Cardinals had a walk-off win.
"We fed off the energy of the crowd at the end," Valentin said.
