Cardinals Win in Glorious Fashion
|
The Minnesota Twins got a superb performance from pitcher William VanLandingham. Still, it wasn't enough to beat St. Louis. The Cardinals won the game, 6-5. In spite of the loss, VanLandingham was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. St. Louis reliever Randy Niemann picked up the win to move to 2-1. Trevor Hoffman suffered the loss. The winning streak has now reached 8 games for St. Louis.
Ivan Calderon dealt the Twins a blow in the bottom of the ninth. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and St. Louis trailing 5-3, Calderon, who finished 4th in the FL in extra base hits with 73 in 1984, hit a first pitch fastball for a 3-run home run.
"It's great when the crowd gets into it," Calderon said.
