Montreal got a terrific game from catcher Mike Sweeney. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to New York, 9-7. Sweeney was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Zane Smith got the win, improving to 6-7. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up 7 runs on 12 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. At 38-32, New York is in third place in the United League East Division.

It could have been a different outcome for New York, had it not been for Bret Boone, the former first round draft pick . Boone contributed a 2-run single in the top of the second inning to put New York up, 3-1.

"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said New York skipper Michael Kritikos.
