Pedro Martinez pitched well, but his team, the Montreal Expos, still dropped a 4-3 decision to the Washington Senators at RFK Stadium. Lee Smith, credited with the save, is now 6 for 8 in save opportunities. With the win, the Senators improved to 37-34.

John Flaherty had a productive at-bat for the Senators with two out in the bottom of the seventh. With runners on 1st and 3rd, the catcher hit a run-scoring single. The at-bat was important in the Washington win.

"We found a way to get it done," Flaherty said.
