Colorado played host to San Diego at the friendly confines of Mile High Stadium.

Getting a good performance from designated hitter Bob Hamelin, the Colorado Rockies defeated the San Diego Padres, 12-5. Hamelin went 2 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4 for the Rockies. The first-place Rockies lifted their record to 37-33.

Colorado took a 10-5 lead on Hamelin's 12th home run of the season. The grand slam home run, which he hit off Mark Langston in the bottom of the sixth, propelled Colorado to the win.

In postgame comments to the Colorado News, Hamelin said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
