Cubs Lose to Pirates, 6-1
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago Cubs, 6-1, in Federal League action at Three Rivers Stadium, with Pittsburgh pitcher Doug Drabek named player of the game. Pittsburgh, now 5-3, has played well in the early going.
Mark Whiten helped out the Pittsburgh cause in the bottom of the fourth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the right fielder was 2 for 4 with a triple.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Pittsburgh manager Stephen Ginter.
