Spiders Come Back Late, Nip Sun Rays
Spirited fans at Orlando Citrus Bowl greeted the Orlando Sun Rays for their clash with the Cleveland Spiders.

Howard Johnson batted in 4 runs to lead Cleveland to a win over Orlando. The final score was 6-5. Johnson chipped in with 2 singles and 1 home run. Cleveland reliever Bob Wickman picked up the win to move to 1-0. Rod Beck suffered the loss.

With Cleveland trailing 5-2 in the top of the ninth, Johnson came up to bat against Orlando pitcher Rod Beck. Johnson hit a slider to right for a grand slam home run. His 24th home run of the season put the Spiders on top, 6-5.

"We'll savor this win," Johnson told the Cleveland Daily, "then get ready for the next game."

At 34-38, the Spiders find themselves in third place in the Federal League East Division.
