New York Yankees starter Mark Clark kept the Cincinnati Reds hitters in check, leading his team to a comfortable 6-2 win. Andy Ashby, credited with the win, is now 2-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. The 4th-place Yankees now have a win-loss record of 31-40.

With no one out in the top of the tenth, Mike Lieberthal lit into a fastball from Mike Mussina for a solo home run. That made the score 3-2 in favor of the Yankees. For the day, Lieberthal was 1 for 4 with a home run.
