Avery Sensational for Orioles
|
The Baltimore Orioles picked up a win at Shea Stadium, knocking off the New York Mets, 3-1. Starting pitcher Steve Avery, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Roger McDowell was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 18 of 19 save opportunities. The Orioles bumped their record to 36-36 with this latest triumph.
Avery gave Baltimore a solid start. The left-hander, who is listed at 6' 4", 195 lbs, allowed 1 run on 1 hit over 8 innings.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Avery. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
