Cardinals Finish Off Royals in 12
|
The Kansas City Royals got a superb performance from pitcher Rheal Cormier, but the St. Louis Cardinals still won the game, 5-1. Cormier was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 9 innings of 4-hit ball. The Cardinals have an impressive 47-27 record.
The Cardinals got an important contribution from shortstop Mike Benjamin, who in the top of the 12th stroked a 1-1 fastball into center for a run-scoring single. It was his 3rd hit of the season and put the Cardinals ahead, 2-1.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said St. Louis manager Adam Rabel.
