Blue Jays Take Tight Tilt, 2-1
The Toronto Blue Jays did just enough to sneak past the San Diego Padres, 2-1, at SkyDome. Toronto pitcher Hipolito Pichardo earned player of the game honors. The Blue Jays now have a record of 39-35.

The Blue Jays got an important contribution from third baseman Dean Palmer, who in the bottom of the second punched a 2-1 fastball into left-center for a 2-run home run. It was his 21st home run of the season and put the Blue Jays ahead, 2-0.

"We take it day by day here," said Pichardo, "and today was a good one for us."
