Pilots Trip Tigers, 3-2
|
Detroit pitcher Jim Neidlinger gave the Pilots all they could handle, but in the end, Seattle left Tiger Stadium with a 3-2 win. Neidlinger allowed 1 earned run on 3 hits over 9 innings. Wally Whitehurst got the win, improving to 7-5. He held the Tigers to no earned runs on 5 hits over 6.2 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 3. Darren Holmes earned the save for Seattle, his 10th.
Seattle catcher Joe Oliver contributed to the cause with a run-scoring double in the top of the fifth. For the game, Oliver went 1 for 3 with a double.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Detroit manager Julio Izquierdo.
Detroit now has a 5-game losing streak.
