In a tight contest at League Park, the Cleveland Spiders edged the Texas Rangers by the score of 10-9. Cleveland center fielder Marquis Grissom, who blasted 2 home runs, was named the player of the game. Cleveland reliever Sterling Hitchcock was the winner. His record is now 2-4. Rob Murphy took the loss. The third-place Spiders have won 4 consecutive games.

With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Howard Johnson put Cleveland in front, 10-9, with a solo home run. The Spiders went on to win the ballgame.

"I'm just happy to help the team win," Grissom told the Cleveland Daily.
