Red Sox Get Past St. Louis for 4-3 Win
|
The St. Louis Cardinals got a sterling performance from pitcher Rene Arocha, but the Red Sox still prevailed, 4-3. Arocha was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 5 innings of 4-hit ball. Even with the win, the Red Sox have a dismal 24-50 record.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Boston shortstop Scott Fletcher, facing Rusty Meacham, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Red Sox the 4-3 win.
"This wasn't a good win," said Fletcher. "It was a great win."
